According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on July 26, 2022, in Kampala, Uganda; the two organisations will leverage their strengths in data sourcing, mining and visualisation to highlight the impacts of the climate crisis and increase community participation and adaptation through awareness and training.
Among the several areas that the MoU will cover a building a joint training curriculum to nurture environment journalists, organisations and individuals; leveraging modern tools to reach wider audiences with vital information.Ā
Additionally, the partnership seeks to; promote water, science, and data journalism and other climate journalism beats in the Nile Basin region, particularly East Africa; foster research, information and knowledge sharing and management; collaboration to host journalism conferences and campaigns in communities; media production for syndication to local radio stations.Ā
During the MoU signing at Last Drop Africa's offices in Kampala, Annika McGinnis, the Co-Founder of InfoNile, noted that the partnership promotes the mutual vision of both organisations to empower journalists on climate change storytelling through data and also pushes for action-oriented initiatives that she added are urgently needed to reverse the effects of climate change in the region.
"Besides the storytelling, we (InfoNile) are looking to increase our activism activities to create more awareness of climate change and its manifestation in rural communities. This partnership with Last Drop Africa allows us to do more that we have already been doing," she said.
Since 2017, InfoNile has trained more than 150 journalists in Africa and done 253 stories, including six cross-border investigations. They have also built NileWell ā the largest platform connecting water and science journalists to relevant researchers and scientists in the Nile Basin.

Alex Taremwa, the Co-Founder of Last Drop Africa, admitted that InfoNile's storytelling portfolio and infusion of scientific data is one of his organisation's key opportunities to gain through this partnership.

The MoU took effect on July 27, 2022 and will run for three years with the possibility of renewal.
