At the 20th edition of Roast and Rhyme held at Jahazi Pier Munyonyo, Bell Lager showcased its commitment to reducing environmental footprints by recycling and reusing 100% of the waste material generated during the event.

The initiative, spearheaded by a dedicated waste management team, ensured proper disposal of waste before, during, and after the event. Impressively, 37% of the collected waste, weighing approximately 170.7 kilograms, was recycled, while the remaining 63%, totalling about 282.2 kilograms, was repurposed for various uses.

The assortment of waste collected ranged from plastics and aluminium cans to food waste and chipboard. This concerted effort not only diverted significant waste from landfills but also highlighted the potential for sustainable practices within the entertainment sector.

Bell Lager's commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond individual events. Last year, at the inaugural Obafest held at the same venue, the brand recycled over 83% of the waste generated during the festival, setting a precedent for sustainable event management.

The urgency of such initiatives cannot be overstated, especially in the face of staggering statistics. According to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) UG, Uganda generates a staggering 600 tons of plastic waste daily, with Kampala alone contributing 150 tons per day. Shockingly, only 40% of plastic waste produced in urban areas is collected, leaving the rest to wreak havoc on the environment.

Grace Amme, Bell Lager's Brand Manager, emphasized the brand's commitment to fostering environmentally friendly practices. "We're cognizant of the waste generated at consumer engagements and aim at sustainably co-existing with the environment," she stated.

Bell Lager's sustainability initiatives are not just a local endeavour; they are part of a larger global movement. Aligned with Society 2030, a global program aimed at creating a more inclusive and sustainable world, Bell Lager exemplifies the potential for businesses to lead the charge towards a greener future.

In a world where environmental conservation is paramount, Bell Lager's efforts at Roast and Rhyme stand as a testament to the power of collective action and the transformative potential of sustainable practices within the entertainment industry. As other businesses take note, Bell Lager continues to raise the bar for environmental responsibility, proving that great taste and sustainability can go hand in hand.
